Recently a regulation implemented by EU Law on data protection privacy of its (European) Individuals called GENERAL DATA PROTECTION REGULATION (GDPR). Which is in effect from May 25th 2018.
Scope:
The regulation applies to all organizations who collects or process the individual (EU Region Individual) personal information such as address, email address, phone number etc.
Effect on Whois Service:
Even though GDPR came into effect on 25th May 2018, the ICANN not yet imposed critical rules on registrars, it have already asked for suggestions and recommendations from many registrars for proposals to overcome the situation. It takes months to find and implement relevant system in place for EU users. Even if it gets implemented soon, it’s very unlikely that registrars will stop publishing non EU users whois to public*.
